I am Chicano.
Torn by a world with civilized manners
I walk quietly through the pebbles of life.
I feel as the fiery Aztec of my past
and love with the softness of cactus blossom.
I am one
and can strike with the viciousness
of an eagle upon a snake
although,
I am as gentle as the soft sands
that whisper in a desert night.
I am the breeze
that comes from the north
and the strength that flows from the south.
I am proud
and will never lose that which makes me different
as it brings me the power
of honor and respect.
Eastward
I look for the knowledge of old time
and Westward,
I see the future and it's sign
as I raise my arms to the sky
thankful to the spirits
who often stand by my side.
Who strengthens me
when I am to weak to move
and help me when I can no longer carry.
Who bless me and my everlasting soul
and my soul is the life
that is one with my Indian Sun.
